The Archives purpose is to promote in
all legitimate ways the interest of purebred dogs.
Registration is open to all dogs of pure-bred heritage.
AMW
recognizes over 400 breed standards worldwide.
AMW
also promotes New Breeds according to specific standards set up by
the individual new breed clubs.
In June of 2006 the
following list are the top 20 breeds registered with AMW in order of
their popularity: Yorkshire Terrier, Chihuahua, Yorkie-Poo,
Maltese, Malti-Poo, Shih-Tzu, Miniature Schnauzer, Toy Poodle,
Dachshund, Golden Retriever, Pekingese, Labrador Retriever, American
Pit Bull Terrier, Pomeranian, Miniature Pinscher, Toy Fox Terrier,
Jack Russell Terrier, Labradoodle, Lhasa Apso, Siberian Husky.

AMW
is working with many
breeders to develop a “standard” for many “Designer Dogs” or hybrids
that are being bred for health, size, and purpose. These breeds are
becoming increasingly popular in the United States. It is our
belief that by breeding for type (size,weight, temperament ,coat,
etc.) that these hybrids will develop a following among dog
enthusiasts that recognize the virtues of their unique attributes.
